106 Kitchen and Bar, Portsmouth, NH

Continuing on the long road of review catch-ups.  This trip was Kari and I buying dinner as payback for Red Sox tickets that were awesome.  Coincidentally, we had a view of the current game on a TV in the bar from our table.  This thrilled Mike and I, but somewhat irked Kari and Katie.  Especially when we followed up after dinner by following the game on the Droid, and stopping at bar windows to catch the action.

The meal was delicious, the server attentive and the atmosphere a little loud (just because we were close to the bar.)

Mike had a pulled pork sandwich, which, if you follow this blog, you know I am prepared to rip on since I live in South Carolina, where the best barbecue is made.  The sandwich was, to me, passable, but Mike really enjoyed it, and, since he ordered it, his score stands as a 3.5.  It came with very good coleslaw.

I had a Chorizo Risotto which was quite good.  Perfectly prepared risotto is hard to find and this was certainly done right.  The chorizo was a perfect flavor addition.  I gave it a 4.

Kari had the Fried Chicken with Mashed Potatoes and Gravy.  The gravy was very good, the chicken crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, with plenty of juicy goodness.  We gave it a 3.5.

Katie had the special which was Salmon with Mashed Potatoes and a Mussel Sauce with too many ingredients to describe.  It was good, but a little complicated and overshadowed the Salmon which was quite good.  We gave it a 3.5.

Overall our experience was very good.  They had an excellent beer selection and a full bar.  Kari had a Rhubarb Margarita that she really enjoyed.

We will strive to return, though there are a ton of restaurants in Portsmouth left to try.  If you don't have a food blog to keep up, make this restaurant a top contender for a visit on your next trip.
