Pope's Pizza, Saratoga Springs, NY

This was an old favorite of ours from back when we lived in Galway, NY in the nineties.  It has since moved from it's previous location right on Broadway in downtown Saratoga to a location a little bit more on the outskirts.

Kari had a slice of the Broccoli White Pizza, which she enjoyed and rated a 3.5.  She also had a small tossed salad which she felt could have had a better variety of vegetables.  She gave the salad overall a 3, mostly because the Parmesan Peppercorn Dressing was excellent and made her not care what was in the salad.  She gave the dressing itself a 4.

I had a calzone which was quite different from what I'm used to.  It was sort of folded over and had a TON of cheese (this is a good thing.)  I had them add Bacon, Sausage and Pepperoni.  Sauce was 50 cents extra, which was a little weird, but the Calzone was very good, especially the really crispy crust.  I gave it a 3.5.

The service was attentive even though it was crowded.  To give an overall judge of a pizza place with such a small sampling, you really have to look at the crusts, the sauce and the quality of toppings.  All of these indicate that you will get consistently good pizza here.  Next trip to Saratoga we will revisit and see if I'm right.
